What makes us Different?

Our Mission

“Creative education that honors the Creator, rooted in God’s love.”

Our mission is to offer the highest quality training to the children of Parkersburg and vicinity through sound curriculum, life experiences, Christian morals, and a focus on Jesus.

Philosophy of Education

The Parkersburg Academy is operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church to provide a spiritually oriented education for children. A belief in the existence of the Creator God is fundamental in the philosophy of Seventh-day Adventist schools. We respect His divine authority and recognize His intervention in human affairs. We believe that true education develops the spiritual, mental, and physical powers of each student; preparing them for the joy of service in this life and for the higher joy of service in the life to come. To achieve this goal, we encourage each student to:

  • develop a personal relationship with God and his fellow men as stated in Matthew 2:37-39
  • master the basic academic skills
  • value labor, physical and mental, as the blessing God intended
  • cultivate physical fitness, mental ability, and moral purity as the blessing God intended.

The Parkersburg Academy is operated in harmony with the guidance and direction of the Office of Education, North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

School History

Parkersburg Academy has had a strong academic presence in Wood County for many years. Adventist Education began in Wood County, West Virginia, in the late 1800's. The current school building was built in the late 1960's.  During the 80's Parkersburg Jr. Academy had one of the largest Kindergarten programs in the county - running a morning and afternoon program. With enrollment close to 100.

From 1990-2009 the school saw a decline in enrollment until after much discussion the School Board voted to close the school. Their goal was to reopen it and in essence hit the restart button.

Thru Providential leading and nothing but Divine intervention the school did re-open in 2011 with the Montessori classroom and 16 students in Pre-K / K. By the grace of God, enrollment has continued on an upward trend and this school year, we have 42 students enrolled in grades Pre-K through 8th with plans of expansion.

Our passion at Parkersburg Academy is to offer "Creative education that Honors the Creator." We want each child who comes through our doors to grow spiritually, academically, mentally and physically while providing a safe and nurturing learning environment.
